Tax-free cash

Win £5,000 cash

You can win £5,000 in tax-free cash with Grand Draws by answering a skill question and entering our £5k prize draw, with low-cost tickets or free by post. The ticket count is capped and published before you enter, so your worst-case odds are a number you can check rather than guess. The draw runs automatically on its closing date and anyone can recompute the result afterwards. The full £5,000 reaches your bank with nothing deducted. 18+.

  • 18pfrom, per ticket
  • 133,750tickets, capped
  • 1 in 5,350worst-case, 25 tickets

Tickets are sold in minimum orders of 25, so the smallest paid order on this draw is £4.50. Free postal entry has no minimum, and each entry carries the same odds as a paid ticket.

The amount most people actually picture

Five thousand pounds is the sum people tend to have in mind when they imagine winning something real. It is large enough to settle a car loan, cover a wedding contribution, fit the kitchen properly or carry a family through a difficult stretch, and small enough that it still feels like a thing that happens to ordinary people rather than a headline.

On our board it sits between the two extremes. The ticket count is larger than the £1,000 draw, so the odds are longer, and smaller than the £10,000 draw, so they are shorter than the top prize. The numbers are published on the competition page, which means you can see exactly where it sits before you decide, instead of taking our word for it.

Winning £5,000, answered

How do I enter the £5,000 draw?

Answer the skill question, then either buy tickets or send a free postal entry. Both go into the same draw on the same published closing date. The ticket price and the total ticket count are on the competition page.

What are the odds on the £5,000 draw?

Your odds are your tickets divided by the published total ticket count. That total is a cap, so the figure you work out is the worst case: if fewer tickets end up in the draw, your real odds come out better. You can try the numbers in our odds calculator.

Do I pay tax on a £5,000 prize?

No. A UK competition prize is treated as a windfall rather than income, so the whole £5,000 reaches you with nothing deducted and nothing to declare for the prize itself.

What happens if the £5,000 draw does not sell out?

It is drawn anyway, on its published closing date, for the full £5,000. We never cancel a draw, move its date or shrink the prize because of low sales, and fewer tickets simply means better odds for everyone in it.

Can I enter the £5,000 draw for free?

Yes. The free postal route carries exactly the same chance of winning as a paid ticket and goes into the same draw. The only cost is your stamp.
