Are these competitions really free to enter?
Yes. Every competition can be entered free by post, with no purchase necessary. A free postal entry goes into the same draw as paid tickets and carries exactly the same odds. The only cost is a stamp.
Is a free entry as likely to win as a paid one?
Yes. A postal entry receives the same number of entries and the same chance of winning as a paid ticket. That equivalence is part of what makes the competition lawful in the first place.
Do I still answer the skill question on a free entry?
Yes. The skill question applies to every entrant, and a wrong answer disqualifies a postal entry exactly as it would a paid one.
How many times can I enter for free?
You can submit multiple postal entries, up to the same per-person limit that applies to paid entries for that competition. Each entry must be posted separately.
